QoL: Make Sooty finally visible on foals
backlog
So we already had that discussion, and I don't think its a secret, that a large amount of players are not happy with the new artwork system.
So why wasn't the update made to show sooty on foals? Cleves only have a very small breeders community already, so adding a new gene
you cannot see on foals
will inadvertently lead to maybe one lucky player with the stable space, but probably some P2W person, getting the first sooty and gatekeeping it for themselves. This would've been a great time to show players that
"Hey, we're actually listening to what you say!"
but I guess you don't want to?E

Hello,
I think there's something else in all of this : how realistic do you want the game to be ? Because irl, what seem to distinguish brown from sooty is that sooty is invisible on foals and start to express around the age where shedding will stabilize (3 yo). So in itself, currently, the sooty is realistic. But I do understand (as a Icelandic breeder, who's breeding sooty) that it will be a loss of bearings to not be able to rely on layers. However, there might still be a way to make it easier to spot sooty. The team mentioned having some ideas on this. In any case, making the sooty visible on foals would in principle be an obstacle to realism (even if in fact there are already some, with certain phenotypes implemented in games who haven't been seen or known irl like some combination of mushroom coats). We also have to realize that this is a game that wants to be realistic, but that has to deal with a realism that we don't know everything about, which is a difficult task. :)

Adding this ticket to our backlog, so we can have a look at another point in time.
For now, we'll stick with the current design, but we do understand the concern/wish for foals showing hints of untestables.

Hi! Since Cleveland's are mainly bay, sooty will be much easier to track and to breed. You should be able to pull foals/adults out of the Foundation that have sooty, with quite a regular rate.
Our research led us to believe that foals are progressively turning darker, which is not something we are able to do in-game.
We also make certain decisions for gameplay reasons, rarity is highly sought after but only stays rare if it's harder to obtain. Regardless of our reason, players (of any game) will always find a way to get something special and keep it for themselves. Since it's an online game, these things can happen.
We are listening to each and every feedback we receive, but sometimes we will still make a different choice.
